ABOUT DESTROYER

Destroyer magazine celebrates the beauty of the male adolescent. The premier issue was released in May 2006 and the magazine is now published quarterly.

Destroyer contains reportages, photos, essays, interviews, reviews, culture articles and controversial columns by well-known public figures.

Destroyer is published by Karl Andersson, a Swedish magazine professional and semi-celebrity. In 1999 he headed Sweden's first glossy gay magazine Straight. Since then, he has worked at Sweden's biggest newspaper Aftonbladet, Scandinavia's biggest men's magazine Slitz and the world's biggest IT publishing house IDG. He has a Bachelor of Arts in language consultancy.

Destroyer is printed and published in the Czech republic, but distributed globally through the website destroyerjournal.com. Destroyer is also for sale in bookshops and galleries throughout Europe and in Canada. The magazine is registered with the international ISSN organisation for serial publications. Its ISSN number is 1801-8203.

Destroyer has A5 size (148 x 210 mm) and holds the highest production standards: full color, glossy paper and UV varnish. The paper and print quality is the same as that of lifestyle magazines like GQ, Esquire and Maxim.

Destroyer contains occasional nudity, usually from photo books available in regular bookshops. Issue 1 contained more explicit nudity in the reportage about twink porn sites. All the participants in that reportage were at least 18 years old.

The graphic style of Destroyer is intentionally "superficial". By making the covers resemble traditional men's magazines like Maxim and FHM, we put the teenage boy in a context usually reserved for the sexy woman. The implications of objectifying a man instead of a woman have been discussed by Destroyer's editor Karl Andersson in various interviews, most recently in Swedish Bon and Italian Rodeo.

Destroyer is sometimes called Destroyer Magazine, Gay Magazine Destroyer, twink magazine Destroyer, underground gay fanzine Destroyer, fagazine Destroyer and even pederast magazine Destroyer. (Written here for the sake of search engines, and just to add the Swedish ones: gaytidningen Destroyer, gaytidning, bögtidning.) The correct title is: Destroyer - Journal of Apollonian Beauty and Dionysian Homosexuality.
